Buyer's Guide To Cat Food Shopping

A dog may be a man's best friend albeit a few will present that a cat can create a more special bond with humans than any other pet can do. History might tell us that this may very well be true. Cats have been found to be with Cleopatra when she ruled the Nile; they were even worshipped back then. Cats too have been known to accompany rumored witches during the medieval times.

And today, people of all ages, of different races, of religion or of beliefs take in a cat with in them in their homes for a number of different reasons. Possibly to help them in the battle against household mice or unwanted snakes or as the most common cause, for companionship. Most women have learned to become good mothers with a pet cat as the latter can curl up, sleep like and even sound like a baby.

Having a cat as a pet requires that you take care of her. And this means that you feed her the right kind of food. Questions on what kind and which brand of cat food to get might be confusing to a lot of new cat owners. Let us lend a hand and provide you with some pointers on what to and how to get the most excellent choices of food for your darling cats.

* Cheap does not mean healthy. A lot of new cat owners visit the mall, go to the pet food aisle and get the most inexpensive box or can of cat food there is. They figure they do not know what their cat would like, might as well start out with something cheap. This may seem ok but later you will discover that there are a lot of drawbacks to this theory.

For one, cheap food may have some ingredients that can set off or produce serious illnesses or medical conditions in the long run. This is kind of like giving junk food to your kids which can trigger future kidney problems. By buying cheap food, you are on your way to spending more money on medication, vaccines and veterinarian fees.

The other disadvantage to cheap cat food is you may need to buy twice as much as you should if you bought premium food. Tests and research have shown that a cat does not stop eating until she gets all the nutrients that she needs. So she may be asking for seconds, thirds or four servings of that cheap cat food every meal time. Low priced food for your cat may give out a 3 to 1 ratio to premium cat food.

* Go for basic. You need not get every kind of cat food there is, you just have to make sure you have the fundamentals. Cats generally need food with taurine, protein, enzymes, fatty acids, certain minerals and vitamins and of course, water. Check the label of the cat food if the latter contains the following. Protein requirements can be easily met with poultry, fish or meat components.
